Fancy taking a hot spring bath in a UNESCO World Heritage Site?
There is only one thermal bath designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site; It is called Tsuboyu and it is located in the center of Yunomine Onsen. Tsuboyu is a small stone bath in a small cabin that overlooks the small river in the city. Only two people can fit in the bathroom at the same time, making it a popular choice for couples.
The small town of Yunomine Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. He has played an integral part in the 1,000 yen pilgrimage tradition of the Kumano region. After a long journey, the pilgrims stopped at Yunomine Onsen to perform purification rituals using the natural hot springs before heading for worship at the Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine.
