Tour Description
This tour is a great way to discover the culture and landscape of Japan, where you will have the opportunity to visit the national parks, gardens, and attractions of southern Japan.
This tour begins in Osaka with a visit to Himeji Castle, a splendid example of traditional architecture and one of the few remaining original castles in Japan. Then, we will head to the Kurashiki photogenic channel area, cross the inland sea to Shikoku Island, visit the Shikoku Mura Village Open Air Museum, and see why Japanese gardens are famous in Takamatsu.
From Shikoku Island, we will drive along Shimanami Kaido, a 60-kilometer toll road that connects the main island of Shikoku, in Japan, with the island of Honshu, passing six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea, back to the Honshu island. Take in views of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridges that are among hundreds of beautifully scattered islands in the Seto Inland Sea at the Kirosan Observatory. Continue to Hiroshima, where you will visit the Peace Memorial Museum and the surrounding Peace Park. On Miyajima Island, you will have the opportunity to see the famous ‘floating’ Torii Gate of Itsukushima Shrine.
From Hiroshima, we will ride the high-speed Shinkansen bullet train to Kyushu Island and visit the Samurai districts of Kitsuki. In Beppu, marvel at the Jigoku ‘hell’ of bubbling waters and geysers scattered throughout the city. Then enjoy a scenic drive to Mt. Takasaki Monkey Park where you will have the opportunity to get up close to some of the 1,500 wild Japanese monkeys. We will also explore Takachiho, a place of myths and legends. In Nagasaki, visit the Nagasaki Peace Park which houses the memorial to the victims of the second bomb that hit the ground. A statue of a man pointing and holding his other arm is a symbol of Nagasaki Peace Park. Our next place is Dejima, an area with more than 400 years of history in Dutch trade. It features historic warehouses and residences, providing information about the former Dutch Trade Post and how they lived during Japan’s two centuries of isolation. Next, visit Glover Gardens, an open-air museum where we can see an excellent collection of historic mansions of former western Nagasaki residents. Continue to Oura Catholic Church, the oldest Christian church in Japan. It was also the first western building in Japan designated as a national treasure.
On this tour, you will have the opportunity to savor the world famous Wagyu beef in Fukuoka, watch a Yokagura dance performance, and spend an evening in a traditional Japanese Ryokan Onsen. You will also have the opportunity to relax in the therapeutic waters of a natural spa bath in an onsen, enjoy the fine flavors of a traditional Japanese dinner at the banquet, and take an evening stroll dressed in your yukata. Immersing yourself in Japanese culture while surrounded by the charm and picturesque architecture of exquisite wooden buildings, shoji sliding paper doors, tatami flooring, and courtyard gardens is the essence of this tour.
This itinerary is perfect for those who want to see a little deeper into rural Japan. It is a great opportunity to see a Japan rarely seen by most visitors.

This splendid example of traditional architecture was declared one of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites in Japan. The following is a visit to Kurashiki. Continue to Takamatsu with a visit to the town of Shikoku Mura. Shikoku Mura (Shikoku Village) is an open-air museum located at the base of Yashima. This pleasant hillside park preserves and displays traditional buildings and structures that have been moved here from all over the island of Shikoku.
