Experience the best of Japan by visiting the best gardens, temples, and modern sites in the country during cherry blossom season.
Spring in Japan shows a wide variety of pale pink cherry blossoms, colorful gardens, and lush green foliage. This tour covers popular must-see attractions in Tokyo and Kyoto, as well as the highlights in the Shikoku and Chugoku regions (Hiroshima and Miyajima). This itinerary caters for a wide variety of interests, from culture, architecture, nature, onsen spa baths, 21st century landmarks, to traditional Japanese cuisine.
Our guides and private drivers will help you navigate through Tokyo’s cultural landmarks, trendy neighborhoods, various shopping districts, and the best cherry blossom viewing spots. Learn how to make your own sushi from a professional chef and enjoy it for lunch. Spend a photo-worthy day at Hakone and Mt. Fuji, then board a Shinkansen (bullet train) ride to gain experience before transferring to the Hamanako Kanzanji Onsen. There, you will stay at an onsen hotel (Japanese-style room), where you can relax in the hot springs (onsen) and dine on gourmet kaiseki cuisine.
Visit Hikone Castle, an attractive hanami (flower viewing) spot during cherry blossom season. Hikone Castle is one of the few original castles left in Japan, meaning that it survived the post-feudal era without suffering severe destruction or remodeling. It is also considered one of the four most beautiful castles in Japan. Visit the Genkyuen Garden, a beautiful Japanese landscaped garden located on the castle grounds. Continue to the Miho Museum, renowned for its architecture that encompasses the surrounding landscape while displaying ancient artifacts. There is also a tunnel that leads from the museum to a road lined with hundreds of cherry blossoms. Designed by I. M. Pei, the museum has been listed as one of the “1000 places to see before you die”.
Spend two days in the historic city of Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. The gardens and temples you will visit in Kyoto have been chosen for their reputation as the “best places to see cherry blossoms.” Experience a Japanese green tea ceremony, meet a maiko (apprentice geisha), and watch a kimono fashion show. Visit Arashiyama, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, which is famous for its bamboo forest and traditional Zen garden at Tenryuji Temple. In the ancient capital of Nara, you will visit the remarkable Todaiji Temple and a deer park where 1,000 Sika deer will roam freely.
Tour the remarkable Himeji Castle and the city of Kurashiki on the canal. Continue to Hiroshima to visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, then head to Miyajima Island and enjoy views of the distinguished torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. At high tide, the vermilion gate appears to “float” on the surface of the sea. Then drive through the Shimanami Kaido, a 60-kilometer toll road that connects the main island of Honshu in Japan with the island of Shikoku, passing six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. Overlook views of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridges from the Kirosan Observatory, along with hundreds of small islands beautifully scattered above the sea.
On Shikoku Island, take a trip to the Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu, climb 1,368 stone steps to the Kompirasan Shrine, enjoy a boat ride, and reflect on the panoramic views of the Oboke Gorge. Our group will also have a chance to savor the world famous Wagyu beef in Kobe. This itinerary is perfect for those who want to visit the famous regions of Japan.
