A great day in Kyoto is Toei Eiga Mura, a unique theme park and movie in one! Here you can jump straight into a samurai movie and wander the streets of replica of traditional Japanese buildings from the Edo period (1603-1868). Other games include a replica of the old Nihonbashi Bridge, a traditional court, a police box from the Meiji Period (1867-1912), and part of the old Yoshiwara entertainment district.
Sometimes the filming of the movie takes place here; on these occasions, theme park visitors are welcome to see the action. Other attractions include live stunt performances, a haunted house, a large souvenir shop, and exhibits on popular samurai television series. It is also possible to dress and photograph yourself in more than 30 costumes; Why not become a samurai, geisha or ninja?
It’s a bit kitsch and there’s nothing flashy or glitzy about this theme park. But Toei Eiga Mura is a great day out for the kids or any adult looking for something different in Kyoto.
