Learn to swing a katana sword in the style of the samurai
Kenbu translates as ‘sword dance’ and is the name given to a traditional style of Japanese dance with katana sword and fan. During the feudal period, samurai performed kenbu to hone their mental concentration and gather strength before a battle. You may remember a kenbu scene in the movie The Last Samurai. The dance is usually accompanied by Japanese poetry with music.
Only One Travel can also arrange for you to join a two-hour kenbu class to put yourself in the shoes of a samurai and experience this fascinating facet of Japan’s cultural heritage first-hand. During the class, you will dress in a traditional samurai outfit before the instructor teaches you a series of basic swordplay techniques, fan dancing, and samurai etiquette. After your class, you will have the opportunity to see a demonstration of kenbu by experienced practitioners.
