As it happened in 2020, everything indicates that in 2021 the cherry blossoms will also be ahead … and quite a bit in some places!
Thus, it is expected that we will see the first cherry blossoms in the cities of Fukuoka and Kumamoto on March 19, while in Tokyo the flowering is estimated on March 21, in Nagoya on March 23 and in Osaka on the March 26th. This estimate is based on the temperatures you have done so far and that the dates can change suddenly.
HANAMI
Hanami is one of our 8 reasons to travel to Japan in spring, but… what is it exactly?
Hanami (花 見) literally means to see or observe the flowers and is used especially for one of the great passions of the Japanese: to enjoy watching the cherry blossoms. But hanami is not just walking around and marveling at the beauty of cherry blossoms, it is also having a picnic with friends, family, or school or work colleagues under cherry blossoms.
There are different varieties of cherry trees, each with different flowers. Among the most frequent varieties we have:
- The Somei Yoshino, one of the most appreciated and cultivated varieties throughout the country for its whitish petals with pink touches.
- The Shidarezakura, a variety of cherry with branches that seem to fall on our heads that have beautiful pink flowers.
- The Yamazakura, a variety that grows free and therefore spreads throughout the country, although with a less spectacular flower than that of the Somei Yoshino or the Shidarezakura (because their new leaves grow at the same time as they bloom, reducing the impact of the whole) .We hope you enjoy hanami in Japan!
