A large number of amateur and professional groups have developed in the last 50 years, but the most famous taiko group is the Kodo drums from the island of Sado. In Japanese, the word kodo conveys two meanings: “heartbeat”, the main source of all rhythm and, read differently, the word can mean “drum kids”, a reflection of Kodo’s desire to simply play his drums. , with the heart of a child Kodo’s presentation includes pieces based on the traditional rhythms of regional Japan, pieces composed for Kodo by contemporary composers, and pieces written by Kodo members themselves.
