All cities in Japan have several Western-style hotels that have been located in major cities by large chains. In these hotels the staff speak English. It is advisable to book well in advance, especially in high season.
The 360 hotels of the Japan Hotel Association (JAI) always meet the standards of service and the highest levels of comfort. Most of these hotels offer the same comfort as any western establishment in the world with heating, television, air conditioning or swimming pool with the possibility of hiring additional services such as interpreters, shops and wellness centers. While they typically have superior quality Japanese restaurants, they generally also have a western restaurant.
In Tokyo, for example, the price of a first-class hotel ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 yen for a single room with a bathroom and from 25,000 to 45,000 yen for a double room with a bathroom. A 5% consumption tax on the total amount per person per night is taxable. In first-class hotels and luxury hotels, the service charges tax is an additional 10%.
