A practical experience to learn the techniques that have made Japanese knives the essential tool of the best chefs.
Nobody makes knives as elegantly as the Japanese. Learn the ancient art of knife forging in a hands-on experience at Takefu. Rural Echizen, in Fukui Prefecture, is well known for the production of Japanese knives, such as sickles, hatchets, shears, and kitchen knives. All knives made here are forged and finished by hand using traditional techniques dating back to the Edo Period (1687-1885).
For knife buffs, we can organize a 6-hour knife making course at Takefu Knife Village. Accompanied by a guide to help you translate, you will try melting steel, welding, polishing and sharpening a kitchen knife. All materials will be provided.
