See this classic form of puppet theater at the National Bunraku Theater in Osaka
A charming form of puppet theater originally from Osaka, Bunraku has been enjoyed by Japanese audiences for hundreds of years with the traditions and techniques of this art form remaining relatively unchanged at the time.
The puppets are cleverly designed and each requires three puppeteers to operate the full range of movements and emotions. The tragedies, love stories, legends and historical tales represented by the puppets are expressed by a unique but extremely versatile narrator and accompanied by the sound of a shamisen.
