Take a walk through the towering dark green bamboo in the most beautiful corner of Kyoto.
Within Japan’s favorite corner of Kyoto is the suburb of Arashiyama, on the banks of the Hozu River. Literally meaning “mountain of storms”, Arashiyama has many pretty temples, preserved streets from the Meiji Period, cafes and shops to explore, as well as breathtaking views of the Hozu Gorge. But the best known sight is the bamboo forest; a 200 meter atmospheric path through a lot of bamboo stories. Best seen as a breeze blowing through the dark green bamboo, it is particularly impressive in December when the groves are illuminated by traditional lanterns.
