The artistic swimming (formerly synchronized swimming) competitions at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, are scheduled to feature a total of 104 athletes competing in two medal events, namely the women’s duo and the women’s team.
For team competitions, the highest ranked NOC in each of the five continental championships was ranked, with the exception of host country Japan. The remaining NOCs may qualify for the top two ranked spots in the 2019 Aquatics World Championships and the top three ranked spots in the Olympic Qualification Tournament. For the duo, the top-ranked NOC in each of the five continental championships that did not have a qualified team must be assured of a spot, while the other seven top-ranked NOCs will be selected through the Olympic Qualification Tournament. The 10 NOCs who have already qualified in the team event automatically qualify a duo (consisting largely of team members).
